Today, O God, I join the psalmist in his prayer to you: "Incline your ear, O Lord; answer me, for I am afflicted and poor. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for to you I call all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul" (Psalm 86:1, 3-4).
Gladden our hearts, gladden our souls, Father in Jesus Christ your Son; many mothers are now grieving over their lost sons or daughters to sickness and accidents; like David in the first reading, it does not matter what kind of a son or a daughter one's children may have been; their death is always a terrible loss, a most unfair and unkind one when parents should have gone first ahead of children.
You alone, Lord Jesus Christ, can comfort and gladden our souls amid our many griefs and miseries; you alone, Jesus, can stop our internal bleeding for the many pains and hurts within us we silently endure like that woman in today's gospel afflicted with hemorrhages for 12 years; raise us up, Jesus, from the pits of our agonies and slow deaths, bring back to life those losing zest of living because of betrayals and infidelities, those in countless despair of failures and frustrations.
Dear Jesus, we pray for those who hide all their pains and sufferings as they forge on daily in life, keeping the faith in you as they try to make ends meet and most especially struggling to fulfill their promises of life and brighter future for their loved ones gladly awaiting their coming home. Amen.

O God our Father,
your words today are so
beautiful and amazing,
proving to us how you move
in so mysterious ways!
Open our eyes and
our hearts to your movements,
Lord, like Abraham and his steward:
make us trust in your ways and
instructions, to be patient and
persevering in your actions
even if it could take time
and would even involve
long distances to cover.
“Never take my son back there for any reason,” Abraham told him. “The Lord, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and the land of my kin, and who confirmed by oath the promise he made to me… he will send his messenger before you, and you will obtain a wife for my son there.”
Genesis 24:6-7
Grant us the wisdom and prudence,
O God, to balance and find your
holy will and presence especially
in this age of relativism at one end
and fundamentalism at the other extreme;
let us heed your Son Jesus Christ's
instruction, "Go and learn
the meaning of the words,
I desire mercy, not sacrifice.
I did not come to call the righteous
but sinners" (Mt. 9:13).
In everything,
may we bring your soothing
balm of solace and comfort
among those suffering and lost
for meaning in life like Matthew,
especially those grieving
like Isaac over the death
his mother Sarah.
Amen.

One with the Psalmist today,
O dear Jesus Christ,
I also proclaim that indeed
"The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord"
(Psalm 33:5)
because even in our sadness,
right in our weeping and in
our crying,
that is where and when you come!
Jesus said to Magdalene, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” She thought it was the gardener and said to him, “Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him, and I will take him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni,” which means Teacher.
John 20:15-16
Like Magdalene,
there are times we are overtaken
by our grief and sadness over our
many disappointments and failures,
losses and defeats like deaths
that we could not see
your loving presence,
your consoling comfort
O Lord Jesus Christ.
Like the listeners of Peter on that
day of Pentecost, "cut us to the heart"
(Acts 2:37), lay bare before us this
glaring truth of your Resurrection, Jesus,
of your victory over death and darkness,
over sin and sickness
that we may be more open to accept and
embrace your loving presence
with us and in us during the most
trying times of life like death of a loved one
or a sudden shift in our lives.
Amen.
