Lord Jesus Christ,
help me to be wise like
St. Augustine whose feast
we celebrate today:
like him through your grace
O Lord, help me overcome
my worldly desires by
lovingly embracing your Cross;
keep my heart aflame
and restless with your love, Jesus,
lit with your truth and wisdom
ready to welcome you when you
return any moment.

Jesus said to his disciples: Stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come (Matthew 24:42).

Make me wise enough,
Jesus to be foolish in following you,
in embracing your Cross;
keep me sensible like
the wise virgins lit with
your love and presence in my heart
sustained with that deep,
personal relationship rooted
in prayer like an oil
keeping the fire burning
in every lamp;
at the same time,
make me a fool like St. Paul,
a fool for you, O Christ,
believing and relying
in the power of your Cross.
Amen.
